Is there a need to change the PMRF selection procedure? IMHO, it should not be done at the beginning just based on proposal, but after 2 years, based on the initial progress and potential of the student as a researcher. The extra PMRF fund can be given for the rest of the PhD.

How did the experimental forecast from Centre for Climate Studies, IIT Bombay IIT Bombay perform this year. Except one, we correctly forecasted all the extremes at 1 day lead. Last evening's extreme was also forecasted by us at 2/3 days lead. mumbaiflood.in funded by HDFC ERGO GIC #MumbaiRains

Our Journal of Hydrology paper shows that adaptive management maintains minimum environmental flows without compromising irrigation or hydropower, and highlights the value of testing alternate problem formulations in reservoir optimization. doi.org/10.1016/j.jhyd…

Many parts of the world have environmental flow challenges. Here is how California's Functional Flows framework might be applied in Chile. (Of course, this research required field trips - and yes, as they say, "more research is needed".)

Scary times ahead with Indian institutions' growing obsession over publications, metrics, and rankings. Unless the Ministry of Education and the UGC INDIA step in to arrest this rot, a handful of individuals and institutions will end up tarnishing India’s global image.

If you really want to help the research in India, please scrap PMRF. It is creating inequality in the labs for the same work. Even trained postdocs are earning less than the PMRFs, who are untrained student... how can this be justified!! timesnownews.com/education/pm-r…

After a successful season of extreme rain forecasts by Centre for Climate Studies, IIT Bombay IIT Bombay, we have received several requests on the algorithms used. The preprint is out: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf… We will come back with our app and portal in June 2025 Puja Raghu Murtugudde Vikram chandel

Two years back, we asked: could AI forecast Mumbai’s unpredictable rains? No GPUs, no fancy setup—just CPUs, reanalysis data & curiosity. Today, that idea is a published paper in Natural Hazards. A proud milestone. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

After remaining stuck for 17 days due to the dry air intrusion from arid regions to the west & northwest of #India, the #monsoon has restarted its progression across central parts of the country. Expect a rapid progression over central & eastern India over the next few days.
