Our Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has never looked so … delicious? When some of our scientists aren’t hard at work, they’re baking up fun astrophysics-themed treats like this Fermi focaccia topped with colorful vegetables and herbs. #WorldBakingDay

The Moon; good for werewolves, bad for H.E.S.S. However, it's important to work with your enemies, and for the last few years we've been doing just that: Extending our telescope operations into periods of moderate moonlight. It's the Source of the Month! mpi-hd.mpg.de/hfm/HESS/pages…

I was very excited to present my first poster ever at #UMAP2022, where I collected such interesting insights from so many inspiring people. Looking forward to present my DC paper tomorrow afternoon.

Lucky is the PhD student who gives her first conference talk to the great UMAP community. Even luckier when that talk results in useful discussion for the next years of her PhD project. Thank you #UMAP2022

It was a pleasure to present our work to the fantastic audience of #BCSHCI22. So many committed teachers interested in how to support students better and ready to discuss their experiences. Thank you @BCSHCI2022

Second conference of the year, second continent of the year 💫 Proud and happy to present my work and interact with the #TeVPA community! But feeling the dilemma of the increasing carbon footprint 👀

Such an amazing group of people! It's always a wondeful and fun experience when hanging out with my fellow MAGICians at meetings and conferences 😊

Our 1st Astro-COLIBRI Multimessenger Astrophysics workshop came to a successfull close. A big THANK YOU to all participants for their inspiring talks and posters, active participation in the Sciathon, and the many proposals for new features (as well as a few bug reports 😬).

Finally submitted 🥳 Want to know more about my favorite blazar Mrk 501? And how it behaves during low activity? Check out the pre-print of my PhD paper on arxiv: arxiv.org/abs/2210.02547 So grateful to my team of corresponding authors and all collaborators ☺️ MAGIC telescopes 🔭🌠

Yesterday, October 19, a record breaking gamma-ray burst was detected by a whole range of observatories. It was so bright that it was initially named as a new X-ray source "Swift J1913.1+1946" and only later characterized as the gamma-ray burst "GRB 221009A".

At a redshift of z=0.151 this is one of the closest GRBs. The X-ray flux (e.g. as recorded by the XRT instrument onboard NASA Swift Observatory) is truly exceptional. See below for a figure that has been developed during our recent workshop and which will soon be available in Astro-COLIBRI.

Btw.: the lightcurve sticks out even more from the archival set of GRBs when you use the burst detection time by GBM onboard NASAFermi instead of the one derived by NASA Swift Observatory. Really an extraordinary event!

Paper alert: VHE gamma-ray observations of the BOAT (GRB 221009A) by hesstelescopes: arxiv.org/abs/2303.10558 No detection 😭, but we managed to get useful upper limits on the VHE flux over a long time range. Looking forward to the complete MWL picture of this amazing event...
