Authors and readers alike should strongly encourage the use of books as ornamental objects. The more people that buy books and never read them, the better things are for everyone. It's like a subsidy for the literate

Lots to take from this morning's closing statements at the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, but this from Danny Friedman KC is probably worth sharing. The inquiry has shown a world absent empathy. As well as all the technical stuff, that needs to change

It was great to host Inside Housing’s Peter Apps at City Hall today, who gave a powerful talk on the shocking negligence and disregard for safety that led to the Grenfell Tower fire. He is the author of the book ā€˜Show me the Bodies; How we let Grenfell Happen’.

Our council house in Tooting gave me the best start in life. Families in London today deserve the same opportunity. Yesterday I was shown round one of the beautiful new council homes in Brent. It’s changed a family’s life.

According to ONS, housing rents are making an increasing contribution to inflation (as measured using the CPIH rate as opposed to CPI), via actual rental costs and the effect on owner occupiers' ongoing costs (as measured using rental equivalence). ons.gov.uk/economy/inflat…

I may be biased, but there is an amazing opportunity to work as a Senior Analyst in our great Housing Policy Team. Applications close this Sunday.

Very sad to hear that Nicky has died. Hard to overstate the influence Nicky had on the capital's planning and therefore on London itself. Her legacy is the greener, cleaner, more humane London we enjoy - and our responsibility is to continue her work.
