Here's Gary Stevenson calling for a return to the 1970s, when the top rate of tax was 98%. But did the rich ever pay it? We spoke to 1970s tax dodgers and ex-HMRC staff & and crunched the data. A 🧵, but here's a spoiler: the rich pay more tax *now*.

The statements by Yvette Cooper on #bbclaurak are another example of a failure of GOV.UK to take into account the particular demographic needs of #Scotland with our ageing workforce, population and low birth rate. We need international care staff. bbc.co.uk/news/live/cx2j…

The Prime Minister’s statement on immigration today will damage our economy, the NHS, social care and our universities. It ignores the need to boost Scotland’s working age population. This sort of divisive language only plays into Nigel Farage’s hands. Not in Scotland’s name.

Scotland desperately needs to retain and attract more working-age people. Research director Ali Payne quoted in The Daily Record outlining why & how the UK Gov should create a specific Scottish immigration policy as part of the broader UK one.

Watch Graeme Roy explain that Scotland’s ageing population will push up health spending just to maintain current services - and why, without long-term planning, cuts elsewhere will be inevitable, no matter who’s in power. The event in full: reformscotland.com/event/professo…

Richard I published a comprehensive plan for the future of the SNHS on behalf of Reform, now called Enlighten, last year. I sent it to the Scottish government and offered to discuss in detail. No substantive response since then. I doubt they have even read it. Mega disappointing
