584 days sober today. hard earned. no selfie of me, because I look exhausted & terrible. but here’s my kitten.

I’m so close. I’m lying in bed thinking about how close I am to being done with the biggest work task of my career. I’m like one Celsius away from being done.

I just realized I’m done with my tenure dossier. I’m making edits & improvements & collecting supplementary materials but in terms of what’s required it’s all there. it could go out. well then. woohoo.

my daughter is very popular & I do not understand it. I spent every recess & lunch in elementary school in the library. I read on average three Goosebumps books a day. I had no friends to speak of. where did this tall, blonde, extroverted daughter come from?

the first time I had a full blown panic attack, I was convinced I was having a stroke. I was in between health insurances as a graduate student, though, so I googled home remedies for stroke, ate a bunch of chili pepper, & prepared to die.

got to pull it together to get ready to teach tomorrow. wow. non stop. good evening, friends. I hope the Sunday scaries didn’t ruin your day.

it is 1AM & I’m done w my tenure dossier. it contains my book, peer-reviewed & public-facing articles, syllabi, course evals, teaching observations, student publications, & letters of support. I can’t believe twenty years in academia is in a file, but it is. wish me luck.

I want students to feel challenged w/o feeling alienated. I want them to feel safe & supported while being uncomfortable, intellectually stimulated but not overwhelmed. William & Mary students work themselves to death, sometimes literally. I want them to come into my classroom

I’m 585 days sober today. I think I made it to the other side of a really difficult period in my recovery. I’m proud.

I am pleased to announce that my little kitten jumped up on my lap for pets & shortly after my big cat jumped up to sit beside me for pets & now I am petting two cats at once. I am the luckiest girl in the world. that is all.
