Great figure by @sung_yun_pai Kate Lurain and Robert Yarchoan showing the relationship between immune defects caused by #HIV and how they can lead to #cancer. Let’s break it down! (1/5)

Honestly medical schools should show students examples of an intemized bill from an ER visit/hospital stay to have context on how costly each decision we make is for patients. I just got hit with my ER bill from my lovely visit last month and my jaw actually hit the floor

Did you know #HIV treatment (#ART) can also prevent cancer in PLWH? Uncontrolled HIV > low CD4+ count > immunosuppression > cancer (Kaposi sarcoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, cervical cancer, etc) ART > controlled HIV > improved CD4+ counts > stronger immune system > less cancer.

Intern year is bizarre. On Monday it’s “call yourself a doctor, don’t use your first name, patients need to respect you”. Tuesday is “why is an intern here, you’ve only been a doctor for 10 days, and first name introductions to patients as a doctor in training” 🤗#medtwitter

"Among participants with advanced cancers entering ICI clinical trials...baseline CD4 counts do not differ by HIV status, low CD4 counts occur irrespective of HIV status, and CD4 counts <350 cells/µL do not appear to increase the risk of adverse events (AE) or impact survival"

#PLWH are at higher risk of HPV and Hep B, viruses that can cause #cancer. Did you know the #HPV vaccine reduces the risk of developing cervical and anal cancer, and the #HBV vaccine reduces the risk of developing liver cancer? #CancerFreeHIV #HIV #HIVonc #Knowledgeispower

Dear TKIs, We thank you for your service - it was a good 25+ years, but it's time to move on. We're now entering the asciminib era. #ASCO24

During #ASCO24 we should spare a moment to be thankful to the patients in poorer countries that participate in randomized trials (and often receive subpar therapies on bad control arms), so that more drug options can be approved in the US and other richer countries. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Important point and definitely a hot topic. Reduction in dose frequency seems to help, and I’ve heard that some groups are using zinc as prophylaxis to dysgeusia. Hoping to hear better prophylaxis/treatment strategies soon, lots of questions on this one at #ASCO today!
