We get this question a lot but you may be surprised that Janice wrote Arcane Arcade and hasn't heard the Fez OST yet. I think the soundtracks to Fez, Dustforce and other games are part of a broader "hi-fi square wave sound" that has been popular in the 2010's.

We used to have a lot of tools, but over the years we gradually minimized our setup, partly due to traveling a lot, but mostly just enjoying the way a minimal setup makes it easy to collaborate and jump into the flow when inspiration strikes

For example, to make the first minute of Subterra, I played hundreds of variations of some chords on a ukulele and recorded them. Then I layered them together and chopped them up every way I could think of, and glued them together with various effects: lifeformed.bandcamp.com/track/subterra

The most challenging track for janice and I was the main theme, To Far Shores. Making it was arduous, with over a hundred internal tracks, and we worked on it over 2 months. But the biggest challenge was learning how to untangle our conflicted feelings of creative ownership.
