Here be dragons! 🐉 One of the (probably Aus endemic) Acanthanura sp. springtails that W. P. Amy Liu and I brought back from our last trip to the Vic Alps 🏔. Nice and chunky, must be all that slime mould it’s be chowing down on in the lab during lockdown #collembola #shotoniphone

First up, a nifty study in Functional Ecology that arose from discussions w/tay's Arda Kuyucu when he visited School of Biological Sciences, Monash. Using a sim/subsampling +testing approach we tried to find the ideal sample size for thermal trait assays - *spoilers* it's way larger than most studies use!

People living/working in informal settlements in tropical cities are exposed to extreme heat now and often lack means to adapt - met data underestimate urban heat; warming will have further impacts on health and wellbeing #COP26 - Monash Science's @_Emma_Ramsay in iScience journal

The first paper from my PhD School of Biological Sciences, Monash with @StevenChown1 and Matt McGee is finally out! I explored the relationship between range size and speciation in honeyeaters, to see what we found (and for some pretty pictures) check out the paper here: bmcecolevol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

We’ve welcomed hundreds of new residents to Royal Park - matchstick grasshoppers! We’re committed to green open spaces in the City of Melbourne and these little critters will help us restore biodiversity.

Just in time for🎄our new research came out in PLOS Biology! We assess how ALL terrestrial #Antarctic species will respond to current and future threats and prioritise #conservation strategies to secure their future 🇦🇶🐧🪱! Let me show you how 🧵 doi.org/10.1371/journa…

The most complete and up-to-date #dataset of alien species in the #Antarctic region has been published in Scientific Data. It offers evidence to help halt the rapidly growing risk of #biologicalinvasion in the region. 🔗nature.com/articles/s4159… 🧵1/5

2 x exciting PhD opportunities available! If you're keen to understand #Antarctic terrestrial #biodiversity and its change to help protect it - look no further! Positions based at Monash University and come with chance to do field research. 🥾 🔗arcsaef.com/story/antarcti…

The beauty of field work on #subAntarctic #MacquarieIsland. We’ve been out hiking & working for 8 days for our Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future science. It’s great to be back. Thanks for supporting our science antarctica.gov.au !! W. P. Amy Liu Kita marie Williams QUT

Our all-woman field team are back from 8 days of hiking and sampling across #MacquarieIsland. They've been collecting invertebrate, plant and soil samples in cold and wild weather. 🐜🌿🕷️🍃 Thanks to antarctica.gov.au. Justine Shaw Kita marie Williams W. P. Amy Liu #SAEFGoesSouth

🎧Listen in to Einstein A Go Go this Sunday. Kita marie Williams will be speaking with Dr Shane Huntington OAM about her recent field trip to #MacquarieIsland and her PhD research which seeks to better understand invertebrate and plant interactions on the island.
