Here be dragons! 🐉 One of the (probably Aus endemic) Acanthanura sp. springtails that W. P. Amy Liu and I brought back from our last trip to the Vic Alps 🏔. Nice and chunky, must be all that slime mould it’s be chowing down on in the lab during lockdown #collembola #shotoniphone

First up, a nifty study in Functional Ecology that arose from discussions w/tay's Arda Kuyucu when he visited School of Biological Sciences, Monash. Using a sim/subsampling +testing approach we tried to find the ideal sample size for thermal trait assays - *spoilers* it's way larger than most studies use!

People living/working in informal settlements in tropical cities are exposed to extreme heat now and often lack means to adapt - met data underestimate urban heat; warming will have further impacts on health and wellbeing #COP26 - Monash Science's @_Emma_Ramsay in iScience journal

The first paper from my PhD School of Biological Sciences, Monash with @StevenChown1 and Matt McGee is finally out! I explored the relationship between range size and speciation in honeyeaters, to see what we found (and for some pretty pictures) check out the paper here: bmcecolevol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

We’ve welcomed hundreds of new residents to Royal Park - matchstick grasshoppers! We’re committed to green open spaces in the City of Melbourne and these little critters will help us restore biodiversity.
