For some early stage cancers (breast, DCIS, prostate, melanoma, thyroid), survival of pts was BETTER than matched population w/o cancer. Findings ? benefit of screening & dx of low risk disease, & potential ⬆️ role of active surveillance. JAMA Internal Medicine bit.ly/2PzuFVM

Exponential increase in thyroid cancer now declining for the first time in decades. Check out our recent work- just out in JAMA! JAMA MSKCC_SSit Lực Morris @jenmnyc @sloan_kettering Weill Cornell Medicine

After decades of increasing #ThyroidCancer incidence rates, levels appear to be plateauing, according to a JAMA research letter from a multi-institutional team led by Dr. Jennifer Marti (@jenmnyc) of Weill Cornell Medicine Surgery & NewYork-Presbyterian. (via Medscape) wb.md/2rY5PpX

Thank you Lực Morris for discussing your work with #HeadandNeck cancer predictors, genetic factors and our duty as clinicians to consider factors that can lead to more precise approaches to cancer care. #surgeon_scientist #MSK

Fascinating work from Dr. Avinash Dinmohamed confirming our finding that patients w some overdiagnosed cancers have relative survival >100%, but less so in NL vs US. Suggests overdx (breast, thyroid, prostate, melanoma) much less prevalent in Dutch health system.

"You should never tell the patient there's nothing you can do. I may not be able to offer surgery, but I can talk to the patient. I can provide empathy. When you say there's nothing you can do, you are abandoning your responsibility as a human being." -Dr. Salem Yale Surgery
