Delighted to share my book review of Talulah’s Rules, written by our talented author and member of #TheSueAtkinsBookClub, Talya Bruck, alongside Stella Mo and Rachel Ryan. This heartwarming story offers a wonderful perspective on how autistic individuals experience the world,

At times like these where I really appreciate my mum posts these kind of things🥺. I won the ‘Michaela Kane’ award at Preston School 9 years ago, one of my highlights of my year after fighting pneumonia for months. So grateful! 💚💪🏼

If you’re one of the thousands of people watching this on BBC One and thinking my Mum is a legend, I confirm you are absolutely correct #ganges

I am delighted to have been appointed as a Trustee for Education Support (educationsupport.org.uk). The charity provides a 24/7 helpline staffed by qualified counsellors. It also works with schools to build cultures of mental wellbeing. educationsupport.org.uk

There's something seriously wrong with someone's spirit if they gain pleasure from humiliating, embarrassing, slandering, and belittling other people for entertainment.

Authentic individuals often irritate toxic people because their genuine nature and refusal to conform expose the insecurities and deceit of the latter. By prioritizing honesty and integrity, authentic individuals challenge the toxic person's facade and manipulation.

🧵 Some teachers & school leaders (& former Ed ministers) don't accept the premise that emotions play a crucial role in learning. They believe childeen should follow the rules, listen to the teacher & learn. The truth is that emotion regulation is the key to that

Adrian Bethune MCCT (@adrianbethune) 's Twitter Profile Photo

And emotion regulation, like other 'rich knowledge' & skills is learned through observing others & by being taught it directly. It doesn't 'just happen'. Emotion regulation isn't taught by punishing/ sanctioning emotions out of people.

Adrian Bethune MCCT (@adrianbethune) 's Twitter Profile Photo

But if you want children to behave well, get on with others, pay attention and learn, emotion regulation sits at the heart of all of that. As Neuroscientist, Prof. Richie Davdison says, 'Attention and emotions are intimate partners'. Why?

Adrian Bethune MCCT (@adrianbethune) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Because learning new things is hard, uncomfortable, awkward a lot of the time. We experience difficult emotions. And the best learners have often developed the skills to regulate those difficult emotions & get on with the difficult task of mastering new knowledge and skills.

Adrian Bethune MCCT (@adrianbethune) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Another thing Prof Richie Davidson says in his book is that every logical thought we have, is processed first in the emotion centres of our brain first. Emotions shape our thoughts, our ability to learn and our experience of life itself.

So, yeah, emotions matter and the best schools I've taught in or visited teach children about emotions, how to regulate them and how not to be scared of them. They're useful information and guides as to what appropriate action we can take next. End.

What if kindness wasn’t just a nice idea, but a radical, teachable practice that could transform lives? That’s the message behind my new book, The Kindness Quest—a toolkit for schools, families, and every human who wants to live with more compassion. #edutwitter
