"Surveillance and monitoring for changes in the #virus are continuing," Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Andrew Pekosz said recently in Brianna Abbott The Wall Street Journal piece, "but at much lower levels than before, so there is more reliance on modeling to suss out variant spread." wsj.com/health/healthc…

"Population immunity, either from vaccination or previous infection, also tends to wane by the summer," Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Professor & Virologist Andrew Pekosz tells TODAY.com. #COVID #vaccination #PopulationImmunity #NB.1.8.1 #variant today.com/health/coronav…

BA.3.2 SARS-CoV-2 variant is one to pay attention to. Lots novel mutations compared to currently circulating variants and while there are only a few sequences, they come from geographically distinct areas - low levels of surveillance may be masking its spread.

Close but no cigar. LP.8.1 didn't get any closer than XEC* to being a world dominant lineage. I think this is the first time we've ever gone 6 months without a dominant lineage.

The former ACIP committee members share their observations and concerns about their dismissal and what they think about the future of vaccines here in the US

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (@senbillcassidy) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Although the appointees to ACIP have scientific credentials, many do not have significant experience studying microbiology, epidemiology or immunology. In particular, some lack experience studying new technologies such as mRNA vaccines, and may even have a preconceived bias

Today's ACIP meeting is usually a time where experts come together to inform the future of vaccines. That is not what today will be. That is not what we can stand behind. The AAP will continue to recommend its own childhood vaccine schedule -- just as we have since the 1930s.

Love this. Though the USMNT did not play well enough to win their match with Mexico in the Gold Cup final, this issue of calling handballs depending on where they occur on the pitch is a nightmare.
