Please stop using “third world countries” to describe nations that are struggling in large part due to white supremacy, imperialism and colonialism. Let’s not use the phrase, period.

A voice like mine has never been a Cabinet secretary or at the head of the Department of Interior. Growing up in my mother’s Pueblo household made me fierce. I’ll be fierce for all of us, our planet, and all of our protected land. I am honored and ready to serve.

So thrilled that Haunani Kane will join GDCS as an assistant professor. Dr. Kane's extensive knowledge in climate science & her unique background in traditional Hawaiian practice & navigation will bring a fresh perspective to GDCS & enrichen our program: bit.ly/38LyzV6

I don’t talk about this often with those outside of my family. But the Olympics have brought surfing onto the “world stage.” So let’s just say it: professional surfing is built on a culture of exploiting Native Hawaiians. 🧵 hawaiipublicradio.org/local-news/202…

Hot off the press!! 👇🏼 We looked at #microplastics in the #deepsea #foodweb of Monterey Bay. What did we learn? 1) MPs were prevalent at each #trophiclevel 2) #trophictransfer is likely not happening here 3) body size matters 1/4 MBARI doi.org/10.3354/meps13…

Hard work, boundless energy, smarts, and fun -- the stuff oceanographers are made of. The future is in really good hands! Thanks to Alyson Santoro and Phoebe Lam for an awesome cruise. Shout out to the R/V Roger Revelle crew, Ben Frable 🐟, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and National Geographic for your support.

How we think about life in the deep ocean depends on the tools we use to view it. Using three different survey methods we found dramatically divergent pictures of deep-sea communities — and the most commonly used method doesn't sample jellies effectively. bit.ly/deep-views
