From today, Dec 1st, the #Lhasa City Municipal has imposed a total ban on Rickshaws from the streets of Lhasa. Rickshaws are seen as a sign of poverty & the City Gov wants to foster an image of Lhasa as a modern, developed city. #Tibet #China

Some wisdom from a website I made for an independent study with Kris Olds while studying abroad in St. Petersburg in 2005. Revisiting it as I prepare for lectures on Russia in my urban geography class.

We fled from #HurricaneMilton on Monday. Took 18 hours to do what would have been a 7.5 hour drive from StPete to Atlanta. 🙏 the damage isn’t catastrophic.

A top psychology journal retracts a flawed study by #Chinese scholars claiming #Tibetan children lack empathy. Funny, we invented empathy! The first word Tibetan kids learn is compassion, we even #meditate on cultivating it. rb.gy/o2lnh9

Any interest in AAS-in-Kathmandu (June 1-4, 2025) ? I am looking for 1 or 2 abstracts for a " contemporary transnational Asia" panel that looks at travel, labor, development, and other issues. The deadline is soon (Oct 31); needn't to be an AAS member. asianstudies.org/conferences/aa…

Still looking for 1 or 2 abstracts for American Association of Geographers Detroit 2025 panel on contemporary borders in Asia. Trying to pericenter China without "centering" China - if you catch my drift.

"Domestic economic corridors are positive spaces that erase the negative spaces of the frontier." Excited for this new article that looks at spatial planning, jokes about bandits, and China's understudied domestic corridors. @RSA_TPG tinyurl.com/4cd3sruv
