Fannie Lou Hamer said “until I’m free, you’re not free either, and if you think you’re free drive down to Mississippi…” I know today she’d say if you think you are free look at Gaza…don’t be afraid beloveds because a liberated Palestine will mean freedom for us!

I'm so glad Walter “Ted” Carter Jr. just clarified why he authorized training snipers on our students and arresting those who had peaceably assembled. Per his statement, he was deeply concerned about over burdening the toilets in the union. Somebody's full of shit and it aint the kids.

This. People keep telling me to wait till tenure to speak up but look around. On purely self-interested grounds, if faculty don’t collectively stand for rights now, there won’t be any for anyone, tenured or not, in a decade. I wish more tenured folks understood or cared about it.

Little known fact: The largest number of federal troops called to end a protest occurred on a college campus. It was the University of Mississippi. In 1962 students and "external community members" (white supremacists organization members) were rioting to prevent integration.

The tropes invoked about student protests (they are violent, they feature people outside of campus, etc.) have been witnessed in the past, they just don't bother to tell you which protests fit the bill.

if you know the history of Ole Miss— if you know what that moniker means in the first place— if you *know* the polo-and-khaki donning good ol’ boys because you’ve lived among them, grew up with them, you know just how much these brave students are risking. god bless them

Crowds of mostly white Ole Miss frat boys coming together to shout down and intimidate people fighting for justice for oppressed people is not a revelation or a historical anomaly.

I think there’s a reluctance to let ppl into dinner/bed time/hanging out with young kids but honestly this has been such a game changer with my relationships and has led to more meaningful friendships. I feel like ppl get to see me as the whole person that I am 🤍

Seeing this while reading Policing Patients (by Liz Chiarello.com) really puts into perspective the far reaching consequences of PDMPs and surveillance technologies in healthcare.
