Good morning from the #WelshMarches. A winter scene but all that remains of the motte and bailey castle at Eardisland, one of the much visited black and white villages. These remains of the motte hide beside the church, but worth a detour. And there are ducks.

#OnThisDay 4th June 1394 (or thereabouts) died Mary de Bohun, first wife of Henry Bolingbroke, the future King Henry IV, and mother of his 6 children. Here a delightful image of Mary from the Psalter made to commemorate her marriage to Henry. Now in the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Good morning from the #WelshMarches. Some stately foxgloves, a twee nymph, fluttering sparrow fledglings, and chairs in the sun for morning coffee. Making the most of it before tomorrow’s deluge.

#Onthisday 7th June 1394 died Anne of Bohemia, wife of King Richard II at the palace of Sheen (possibly from plague), Richard so grief stricken that he had the palace completely destroyed. This medieval crown possibly came with Anne to England or was made for her.

Good morning from the #WelshMarches. All is green. Still dry but bands of cloud approaching from Powys. A good year for fledgling sparrows in the hedges.

#OnThisDay 12th June 1381 the Peasants' Revolt was well under way. Wat Tyler and his men spent the night camped at Southwark. On the following day their eyes would be trained on this magnificent place on the Strand. The Savoy Palace, home of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster.
