T'was great organizing the 'Deciphering Microbiome Functions' Workshop at Lorentz Center in Leiden with Magnus Palmblad, Lucia Grenga, Tim Van Den Bossche Alfredo Blakeley-Ruiz @j_henderickx. Had a great time meeting #microbiome researchers, attending brainstorming sessions last week. #DecMicFun

Interesting new rool from Franz Baumdicker and colleagues. This is the last time phylogenetic effects interfere with your co-occurrence calculations.

Check out our new method to infer gene co-occurrences and avoidances in bacterial pangenomes biorxiv.org/content/10.110… github.com/fbaumdicker/go… with Franz Baumdicker

We are looking for a PhD student in virus bioinformatics co-supervised by me and Astrid Bryon Wageningen U&R wur.nl/en/vacancy/phd…

Some news on my side 🎉 I will join Wageningen U&R as an assistant professor in September. My research remains at the intersection of bioinformatics and cheminformatics and I will focus on applications contributing to pharmacology and sustainability in (bio)chemical synthesis and ag.

Two weeks left to apply for a PhD position in insect virome and microbiome analyses with Anne Kupczok and me Wageningen U&R wur.nl/en/vacancy/phd…

We’re hiring! PhD on rhizosphere phages and response to future atmosphere with metagenomics and isotopes… this project has it all 😉including awesome collaborators Anne Kupczok Linglingshi. And a great uni in beautiful Tü! #phdjobs #soil #phage uni-tuebingen.de/en/266340

New paper alert wt Anne Kupczok : we found thousands of species-specific genes in the human gut microbiome (some with evid. of selection) and they mostly seem to be "grown locally" in bacteria, rather than transferred from phages. genome.cshlp.org/content/early/…
