Nobody is in a better position to improve worldwide Git hygiene than @GitHub, so it's sad that they still don't let you comment on *commit messages* in PR review (you can only comment on the code diffs.) Good commit messages make good history. Help us make good history! 🤓🐙🐱

HTML Design Principles is one of the things I'm most proud of writing (along with co-editor Anne van Kesteren and its other contributors). Some of these principles have so won the day in web standards that it's hard to believe they were once controversial. w3.org/TR/html-design…

I had the same experience as Anne van Kesteren: annevankesteren.nl/2023/05/webkit… One day, I wanted to fix something in the WebKit's website history UI, so I dived into the WebKit source code. Within a couple of weeks, I ended up contributing to the Wasm support in JSC github.com/WebKit/WebKit/…

I wish we used Web IDL to define all APIs, including those that end up in JavaScript proper. Maybe that means Web IDL needs changes, but having a shared argument-validation layer seems like it would be a huge win.

Apple is looking for a senior Layout & Rendering engineer! If you like working in C++, know HTML+CSS, and enjoy calculating rectangles, this may be the WebKit position for you~~ Your coworkers are all super nice, I vetted them for you already. ;) jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/…

Curious about how the Interop Project is improving accessibility through automated testing? Apple contributed significantly to the effort to create new Web Platform Tests that ensure HTML and ARIA work as intended. Read about what’s been happening: webkit.org/blog/15400/imp…

And, Jonas is presenting our work on differential testing of JSON parsers at AsiaCCS. We introduce a new testing approach and apply it to 22 parsers. We find countless discrepancies🤷‍♂️. Key result: Ask two JSON parsers, and you'll get three opinions. mlsec.org/docs/2024b-asi…

The phrase 'Open Standards' is widely used but not well-understood. Let's take a look at what openness in standards is, with a focus on whether and how it helps to legitimise the design and maintenance of the Internet. mnot.net/blog/2024/07/0…

Said it before and will again. I think TC39 has done a remarkably good job evolving JS. So many of the additions over the last ~15 years feel like so nice – like natural obvious additions to the language that just fit in with everything else, without adding new dimensions of

30 years ago, on Oct 10 1994, I first proposed CSS. It's been an adventure to see CSS as a baby, teenager, and aspiring professional. Sometimes misbehaved, but mostly a source of joy and excitement. w3.org/People/howcome… W3C (@[email protected]) @printcssrocks Web Design Museum PrinceXML
