Good research comes from a place of calm, and from dedicated, prolongued focus. If you're constantly panicking and trying to jump on every small research trend, you have already lost. The best researchers I've worked with seemed to have all the time in the world to discuss ideas.

Advice to a student who was worried about bombing the computer graphics midterm, and wanted to know why they did great at the coding exercises but struggled with the exam. To paraphrase my PhD advisor: mathematics is like weightlifting for the mind. 🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️

Another reason why I believe all senior academics should be on Twitter: to hear first-person perspectives from current/ former trainees who lack privilege or were harassed; easier to pretend it’s all roses with your head in the sand. I’m so sorry/ angry @McknightLaura

🎉 Self-driving networks need per-packet ML, we make a case for this in our upcoming paper in ASPLOS, **Taurus: A Data Plane Architecture for Per-Packet ML**. It's a joint effort with Kunle Olukotun and a super-star team of students: Tushar Swamy, Alex Rucker, & Ishan Gaur!

Had an amazing time presenting our work on a smart cache for a SmartNIC at #HotChips (Hot Chips). It was awesome getting feedback from Patrick Bosshart, a key figure behind Barefoot, P4, & Tofino. Huge thanks to my collaborators Ben Pfaff @benpfaff.bsky.social @[email protected], Gianni Antichi, and Muhammad Shahbaz!

🚀 Our Gigaflow cache is ready for primetime! Supercharging vSwitch performance with a novel caching architecture for modern SmartNICs. The codebase is now open-source with all workloads and benchmarks at gigaflow-vswitch.github.io. More details at dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/36…

Sparse workloads scale poorly due to network bottlenecks. Our recent work in #MICRO2025, NetSparse, pushes communication into NICs/switches to slash traffic & boost performance by up to 38x on 128 nodes! 🚀 Huge kudos to Gerasimos & team at University of Illinois and Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan! 🎉
