[conference #IGES, Thursday] Giving a talk about a multivariate testing method with #GWAS data to detect SNP-traits associations and how its ability depends on 'genetic architecture' in the data Will be my first in-person meeting after a long time💥 IGES @GGSPasteur

1/5 I am presenting right now my poster (PB3504) at the #ASHG2022. I work on a statistical test (MANOCCA) based on covariance matrices, and we apply on human gut microbiome data. A quick thread on what I am presenting :

🤯Because of Excel, a THIRD of all genetics papers published in top journals have errors, as many genes have names like SEPT2 (the official name of Septin 2), which Excel automatically makes dates. The issue was found in 2016, but still hasn’t improved! journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…

PhDs: your dissertation topic is less relevant to finding a role outisde of academia than your *skills*. Here's a 🧵 on how to translate skills you already have into corpspeak, including bullets which I used to describe my PhD work in my first corporate resume:

A challenge that every graduate student faces: how to read difficult research articles. Here's how to understand research articles better using an AI-powered app (no cheating although it may feel like it 😀):

I have written 300+ peer-reviewed scientific papers in the last 15 years with more than 27,000 citations. Here is how I use sentence templates to write abstracts at lightning speed. ↓ ACM CHI Conference Voices of Academia PhD Voice - Independently Run PhD_Genie #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter #phdlife

Sci Hub is a "pirate" website with 88M research papers freely available. Using it is not advisable. We should all try to make billion-dollar acdemic publishers richer. Here's a thread on integrating Zotero with Sci Hub to get free articles. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS 😉
