Behind closed doors, the Ukrainians refer to Britain’s military chiefs as the “brains” of the “anti-Putin” coalition. Their role goes deeper than many may think. Our long-read on the role of CDS, his "principle lieutenants" and Gen Hockenhull in the war thetimes.com/article/27dc78…

Can you believe that it's already been 15 years since we first heard about Stuxnet? And perhaps 25 years since Stuxnet components were first developed? Cyber is no longer emerging. It has emerged. My new article in J Strategic Studies revisits this seminal case.

I'm looking forward to the #StrategicDefenceReview. I assume it will commit UK to a Euro-Atlantic NATO mission. But if it does not recommend a substantial increase in military personnel in all three services, and talks instead about drones, autonomy and AI, it will be unserious.

I interviewed Steve Diggle, a friend of some thirty plus years' standing as well as a successful fund manager, about his new tailrisk fund and why why he thinks 2025 is analogous to 2007 marketwatch.com/story/this-sta…

The #liverpoolparade incident was truly terrible. Its causes are complex and very unclear. But it seems very unlikely that the fact that the perpetrator once served in the Royal Marines many years ago was a causal factor. So why publicise the fact so prominently?

The #SDR will appear on Monday. I anticipate; it will prioritise NATO and Trans-Atlantic defence; will call for an increase in resources and personnel; it will emphasise AI/LAWS. All fine but in order to exploit AI effectively, the forces will have much bigger than they are now.

So like most of us, I'm digesting the #StrategicDefenceReview. There is an irony to the whole document. It announces the Integrated Force. But when we turn to the different domains, the descriptions are entirely traditional single service. No integrated mission is identified.

Anthony King (@antbruceking) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This was my prediction of #SDR. As feared, there is no increase in regular personnel. To generate mass and sustain the force in a protracted high-intensity war, the UK will rely on autonomy, a 20 per cent increase in reserves, and more reliance on the Strategic Reserve.

The #StrategicDefenceReview places great faith in autonomous systems; it mentions autonomy 16 times and autonomous systems 27 times. Autonomy is not irrelevant, but almost all the systems in Ukraine are remote, not genuinely autonomous. Is it is deliberate conflation?

The strangest sentence in the #SDR2025. Discussing empowering bureaucrats (p67), the review notes: 'Technology must also play a role, including in improving counter-fraud detection'. The implication is a lot of red tape is to stop fraud. Is MOD fraud a serious problem??

A lot has happened since #StrategicDefenceReview has came out on Tuesday: not least its funding assumptions may have just been invalidated by Peter Hegseth! But you might be interested in my reaction to some of its arguments: theconversation.com/the-uk-is-gear…

I chatted with Kris Sidial, a US tail risk volatility hedge fund manager for Ambrus, who's generated startlingly good returns in 2025, particularly amid the chaos of April. Read how he does it here marketwatch.com/story/amid-the…

I'm afraid I disagree Patrick Fox! Monty was a difficult individual, especially after the death of his wife. But he was a very fine soldier and commander who traduced his own memory with his narcissism.
