The An Viet Foundation were crucial in helping refugees from #Vietnam. These refugees faced arduous conditions to reach the UK and faced an alien environment when they came to settle here. These #AVFAFinds provide insight into some of the services offered. 1/4

Housing was offered to families and individuals in need through the An Viet Housing Association (now known as the Lien Viet Housing Association). As they were run by #Vietnamese staff, they were better suited to support the housing needs of the community. #hackneyhistory 2/4

Unemployment was initially common in the Vietnamese community. This was a result of lack of confidence in their skills due to job rejections and often because they didn't speak English well. To help the community, An Viet provided employment support as well as ESOL classes. 3/4

The An Viet Foundation also provided youth programmes where they organised extracurricular activities such as trips and also supplementary lessons. These were crucial in engaging the younger generation with their community and their culture. #vietnamesediaspora 4/4
