Under HR 9495, nonprofit newsrooms β€” many of them unionized, like ProPublica Guild β€” could be targeted by future administrations looking to retaliate against their critics. This bill would have a chilling effect on the free press, and we urge Rep. Frank Pallone to vote NO.

When Gannett cut AP in March, our corporate execs said the savings (along with cutting LexisNexis access) would be reinvested in its newsrooms. At the time, the APP-MCJ Guild 🌊 was down 4 reporters (investigative, features, sports) and a videographer since Oct. 2021.

Logging off for the weekend until/unless we get a 4:59 p.m. statement from the powers-that-be, so this story is largely set now. Gannett should settle a fair contract with the APP-MCJ Guild so we can be paid appropriately for important, impactful work. app.com/story/news/inv…

READY TO WALK: Our members at six Gannett newspapers in New York and New Jersey have had enough and voted by 95% to walk off the job. They are fed up with Gannett disregard for labor law and refusal to agree to a fair contract after three long years of bargaining.

Excited that I’ll be able to afford furniture now! Many thanks to our union reps and leadership, as their work and effort predate my time with the APP and create a better future for the newspaper.

Solidarity forever with The Record Guild. Nearly a quarter of their members earn less than $40,000 annually β€” a poverty-level wage anywhere in New Jersey, let alone North Jersey. Gannett management should be ashamed that it’s come to this.
