The Department of Education and Secondary Education announced that the state-wide K-12 mask mandate will expire on Feb. 28. However, the NSBORO Regional School Committee retains the final say on Algonquin’s masking policy, and the town’s committees retain the final say for K-8.

DESE recommends continued masking in the following scenarios: - the five days following a positive individual’s five-day isolation - anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 (these individuals must also receive a negative PCR test) - unvaccinated individuals

The School Committee voted unanimously to modify Algonquin’s masking policy. The new policy, which will begin on Feb. 28, makes masking optional unless a number of metrics are met and the superintendent reinstates masking. The full policy can be read here: bit.ly/3gO7hkt

Between first and second period today, students evacuated the building during an ALICE drill. The purpose of the drill was to practice the protocol if it were implemented during a passing period.

Students participated in a walkout from 9:40-10:01 to honor the 21 lives lost in the Robb Elementary shooting and to protest gun violence. This walkout was organized by Massachusetts Youth Activism Collective (MYAC) leaders.
