Composers - letās all give thanks to our orchestras and to our precious BBC BBC Radio 3 BBC Proms BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus #FirstNightofTheProms

The first of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestraās BBC Proms this season, and what a way to begin ā with a world premiere by Tom Coult (commissioned by the BBC and gloriously sung by Allan Clayton) and a blazing Mahler 7, all under the baton of the brilliant John StorgĆ„rds.

Eric Whitacre is inspiring so many people with his Ryedale Festival residency. Still time to āCome & Singā with him in Norton this afternoon. Or hear āThe Sacred Veilā tomorrow with VOCES8 in York. Eric Whitacre #ACESupported

In the town of Malton for the fab Ryedale Festival . Sara Oschlag & Pete Longās Echoes of Ellington Quintet - & a late night Gaelic experience with Donald Grant. A smidgen of the excellent variety of this festival. (Missed singing with Eric Whitacre - heāll be glad of that) ..

A very beautiful concert last night Ryedale Festival from Donald Grant and a great band in the rather lovely acoustic of St Peterās Church Norton. His new work āThe Night Overtook Usā was made for this venue at this time. Discoveries like this make festivals special.

Sam Jackson Adam Sherwin I really believe that any journo who's thinking of writing yet another 'Whither the Proms' feature should be forced to read Nicholas Kenyon's excellent history of the festival before they do. They may find it rather enlightening, particularly the Glock era...
