On this occasion the students also learnt about the threat #satellite mega constellations & #SpaceDebris pose for astronomy through an engaging presentation given by the talented young volunteers from Aryabhat Foundation, Bhopal.
We had organised demonstrations for the public to investigate the effect of the Sun's elevation on the shadows it cast. When the Sun was directly overhead at 12:17 today, vertical hollow tubes cast perfectly circular shadows beneath! #ZeroShadowDay #ZSD DSTIndia ASI Public Outreach and Education Committee
We partnered with Aryabhat Foundation Aryabhat Foundation in #Bhopal (about the same longitude as #Bengaluru). They measured the shadow length at our local noon, using which both teams calculated the radius of the Earth using Eratosthenes method to within few % error!
