The problem with punitive actions is that they hardly ever work. On the contrary, at times, they can be massively counterproductive, and could be exploited by those who want unrest. Move for corrective measures, instead of parading students for photo ops. Not a good sight.

The students not necessarily have to be supporting a political party to come out for protests. Thats how instigation works. Classic MO. Example = Love Jihad in India. This is what I call 'Crowd-Sourcing Violence', also the title of my upcoming book.

People across the world have effectively monetised political polarisation, and have their own unique business models (figurative or literal). This here is an example. In that process, however, politics and information ecosystems are being eroded massively. It's a zero sum game.

So basically, India's strategy now is to keep their Rafeals 'safe' and engage with small, low flying drones to create a spectacle in Lahore and to instil terror in the citizens. If this isn't terrorism, I don't know what is. The world should start seeing this for what it is.

The use of drones in densely populated civilian areas like Rawalpindi food street without clear military objectives is a blatant disregard for international humanitarian law. India must be held to account for these actions. United Nations Human Rights Watch Amnesty InternationalICRC

My latest, where I argue that platforms are far from neutral. They are fully complicit and actively profiting from hate / disinformation in the Pakistan-India conflict. Also discussed: Indian news media riding that wave, and impact of cutting down independent fact-checking.

The Outrage Machine - my latest article for Geo News. Why was Indian news media spreading obvious lies that could easily be fact-checked in under a minute? What were they playing at? What did they want to achieve? Were they successful? I unpack. geo.tv/latest/604038-…
