I have worked on diversity in faculty hiring for several years and have studied racism for decades. I can thus tell you with confidence that the #1 reason Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people are under-represented among faculty is that people on search committees are racist.

I'm an asst prof. I don't work after 6pm and I don't work weekends. Maybe I'll be punished. But I'm putting it out there because I ABSOLUTELY love my job. But I love my mental health too. And those boasting they love to work, defining it as overwork, set a biased example. 😌

I’m 43 years old… I earned my PhD over 15 years ago… I’ve been a professor for over 10 years… …and yet I just read something I wrote two years ago and still thought “I could do so much better now.” We *never* have to stop growing.

In an effort to normalize failure I just want to announce I was passed up for both the MacArthur and multiple Nobels. Been a rough couple of weeks. Will continue to press forward
