One of the great joys of the job is exploring areas most people don’t see. Brecon Cathedral presbytery roof shows three eras of different roofs from low pitched 16th century to the steep early 19th century and then the GG Scott even steeper pitch

Perfect way to ease back into the week after the Easter break with a days surveying at Croxden Abbey in the sunshine.

A pleasant afternoon on the roof of Birmingham Cathedral and interesting seeing the western half as angle trusses and the east end as timber. The west end was lost to an incendiary bomb in 1940

Grand tour of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire today with two fantastic buildings at the start and finish. Buckden Tower to start and finished with Crowland Abbey

If you have to work a Saturday it helps if you are at a stunning building and the Royal Court and State Rooms in Jersey are just that.

Quite unusual as an Anglican Church with a Catholic Chapel attached. St John the Baptist in Mamble is lovely and I do like a timber framed tower and spire

I find industrial heritage fascinating and the enigineering on the Hay Inclined Plane at Ironbridge, is fantastic from 1793. It lifted barges 207ft (63m) from a canal next to the River Severn at the bottom up to the Shropshire Canal at the top. Oliver Architecture ReynoldsConservation

Wednesbury Art Gallery and Museum is a beautiful late Victorian building with fantastic cantilevered stair. Only problem is that the history exhibition of the 1970’s I remember far too clearly 😀

Trip up north today to look at the bell tower at St Oswald’s Warton which is by Morecambe. Bells have a double wheel which I’ve not seen before

Great views in the snow in Ironbridge from the roof of the mMuseum of Iron and then up to Hardwick which always looks stunning in the snow
