We only ever see the same handful of video clips from WW2 that I'm always amazed when shots like this pop up from archives. A pre dreadnought of all things firing point blank into a city is insane and someone filmed it. People just gathering to watch is equally crazy.

The most maddening tech discourse these days is that we need AI to figure out how to solve climate change. We've known how to completely solve climate change for more than a decade, thanks. We just don't want to.

There are 3 important global conservation targets for 2030: protect 30% land & sea; halt forest loss, and restore 350 Mha of degraded landscapes Our new analysis suggests that under current trajectories, all 3 targets will be missed - by a large margin link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Glad to share our first article with Simona Bekeraitė opit and Ivona Juchnevičiūtė on the assembly rules of Eurasian Pleistocene large mammals. Here we've tested the association patterns and their temporal evolution using Bayesian networks 1/n link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Basically what we've found are the conditional probabilities of factors which hierarchically influece the geographical occurence patterns of mammals. E.g. occurrence of cats positively influenced the probability of finding dogs, which in turn jointly influenced mustelids 2/n

You can use the basic transition probabilities to for example prognose the dependencies of mammalian families on other families, as well as on abiotic factors such as longitudes or latitudes of their finds. 3/n

Finally, what we've found is that the conditional occurence patterns studied at the level of families were essentially time-invariant at the scale of the Pleistocene Epoch. This suggests the stasis in structural rules of assembly at Ma time scales 4/4 Sergi Valverde🌍(under a blue sky) Niles Eldredge

Ah…stasis in the structure of faunal assemblages. D’Orbigny, Vrba and Brett et al. taken a step farther down the road to understanding the interplay between cross-genealogical interactions and phylogenetics.

very much do not like the possibility of an "emerging low-cloud feedback" in explaining recent high temperatures science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Unfortunately, donations toward our new project to deliver engineering equipment to Ukraine have completely stopped. That is why I want to explain its significance. Please see the donation link in the next post, and if you believe this is an important project, consider reposting
