New paper in ESA Frontiers. We analysed >1 million iNaturalist records of Australian terrestrial invertebrates (as of Dec. 2021) and assessed 'recognition' (% ID'ed to species) and 'completion' (% of all known species recorded) across 39 broad taxa doi.org/10.1002/fee.26…

We love taxonomists! ❤️ Today we’re celebrating the scientists who know what’s what in the world of plants and algae for #TaxonomistAppreciationDay. We asked a few #TeamCSIRO taxonomists to tell us about a species that is special to them. spr.ly/60143fgQC

We just published a new paper at Plant-Environment Interactions Wiley Plant Science with some sobering findings. Our latest research at Biodiversity and Conservation Science sheds light on future forest composition in Western Australia under a climate change scenario. Forget catdog, have you heard of catshark? 🦈 Researchers have identified this new species after finding the shark’s eggs and matching them to those in our Australian National Fish Collection. Join the Great Eggcase Hunt Australia: spr.ly/6016Oed9C

There are so many undocumented species awaiting discovery in herbaria and museums, including several new triggerplants I’ve unearthed at the Northern Territory Herbarium in the past 2 weeks. More taxonomists please👇

Very impressed with @RubySeadragon's work on weedy seadragons, using genomics to explore structure and gene flow, and wildlife forensics to track origin of illegally-collected animals 🐉 with Greg Rouse too! rdcu.be/ddhKM

Be wary of species records on Atlas of Living Aust when they are from iNaturalist - SO many incorrect #Australian #bee identifications. Crowd consensus does not equal taxonomic verification. We should be investing in #taxonomy Taxonomy Australia

Species are going extinct before we discover them Have you ever wondered, why is there no service to support taxonomic species descriptions? The SOSA project SENCKENBERG proposes a new model to accelerate taxonomy. Out now in #Bioessays onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/bi…

Have you heard the news?! A stink bug new to science was discovered on our Wudjari Esperance Bush Blitz! The pea-sized stink bug resembles the spiky leaves of its host plant, a Hakea sp. If you take a closer look, you can see it also has curved horns and bright yellow tusks!

I am seeing a lot of news in the press (at least in Spain) saying that botanists "have decided to get rid of all offensive names on plants". As always some media do not contrast and misinform, this is what has happened. 👇🏻
