Super nice to listen to my supervisor Paul Nicholson give the keynote afternoon talk about the Wheatblast: new disease with possibly old solutions at Monogram Network . He shows evidence of overlap in wheat blast and powdery mildew resistance.John Innes Centre

Really nice talk from Anisa Blower on exploration of NIAB’s synthetic wheat as a new source of of genetic resistance for control to Septoria disease .Monogram Network Niab Science

Really clear and nice talk by Sarah Bailey from John Innes Centre on exploring the effects of disrupting disease susceptibility factors. Shows by targeting certain yellow rust susceptibility-linked genes, less negative effect on overall wheat fitness is observed Monogram Network

Really interesting to see nice research by Victoria J. Armer looking at the microscopic aspect of wheat resistance to FHB.She talked about how Fusarium toxin DON, facilitates cell-cell invasion during host-tissue colonisation.Monogram Network

Nice talk from Tim Mauchline on Rooting around the wheat microbiome!#monogram24 Monogram Network

Emily Carr, 2nd yr PHD from University of Bristol gave a nice seminar on the roles of root exudates in root-soil interactions in wheat and arabidopsis. Monogram Network

Ian Tsang also a 2nd year PhD from Niab Science gave a nice talk on Hairy roots-promoting increased wheat nutrition. He showed a novel root hair mutant in wheat and that root hair length and architecture are key for plant yield development Monogram Network #monogram24

To wrap up the talks for day 2, Sarah Raffan from Salk Institute gives a nice talk on assessing Suberin accumulation in wheat root systems from the single cell to the organ scale. Monogram Network #monogram24

Really nice gala dinner to round off the 2nd day of #monogram24 Monogram Network Rothamsted Research

Kicking off the last day of Monogram Network by Prof. Anthony Hall from Earlham Institute speaking on how multiple genomes change our understanding of crop evolution and why one genome isn’t enough. #monogrà m24

Dan Smith from Rothamsted Research gave really interesting insights into pangenomics Monogram Network #monogram24

Congratulations!!! to Rose and narongsak Uttam Kamble both from David Seung’s group John Innes Centre on winning the MECEA Awards 🎉🎉🎉 Both gave really interesting talk about their work on A and B starch granules and the importance in baking and brewing. Monogram Network

And it’s a wrap🎉! Thank you to all the organisers and the sponsors of Monogram Network and the Rothamsted Research team for the wonderful conference. I have benefitted so much from the research talks, met really nice people and I look forward to next year’s!

Guess what! Next up is Aberystwyth 🥰. We are going to Wales! Monogram Network #monogram25

Less than 1% of UK professors are black (160 out of 22,855 professors in 2020/21 data). I am incredibly delighted to share that I have accepted an offer to be a full Professor and Chair of Genomic Diversity at the prestigious Queen Mary University of London 1/8 qmul.ac.uk/media/news/202…
