In 1981, Zimbabwe’s GDP was US$8bn and by 1998 it was US$6.4bn. Compounded negative growth over the period. We look back at these years as the glory years of Zimbabwe. Why? When the economic facts reflect otherwise? Perhaps we were just happy to be a free independent country

Has anyone done a study of the cost of hiv/aids on Zimbabwe economy in the 90’s? What collective trauma lives with us today? That stops us from being productive compared to other societies like Kenya and Nigeria that didn’t suffer the scourge. What do you think?
