New York's West Village is one of the most beloved neighborhoods in America. But it's also one of the most controversial. As a home to celebrities and billionaires, average rents are nearly $5,000. Here's why it's so in-demand:

The more people that choose to walk, bike and take public transit to get around cities, the better cities work for EVERYONE, including DRIVERS. Anyone still claiming this is a “war on the car” doesn’t understand how cities work. HT @IBikeSafe for graphic.

Most car trips in America are under 6 miles, and they’re for things like groceries, appointments, shopping, and dining. Our built environment requires people to spend thousands of dollars a year on vehicles just to drive a few minutes away.

Climate scientists have been sounding the alarm for decades, and now the window for action is closing rapidly. The only way to defeat climate change is to end the use of fossil fuels. But guess who doesn't want that to happen? Fossil fuel companies. (1/3)

To discuss the color of the clothing of this pedestrian hit by a cop going 50 mph over the speed limit on a downtown street with no siren, as if it’s remotely relevant, is a despicable act. Shame on KING 5 News

A new study finds that 78% of ocean microplastic comes from tire dust, largely from rich countries. Electric vehicles will not solve our ecological crisis. They will only prolong trends like this.

This is so bad. Ghost reefs like this now span both coasts of Central America. So many people have no idea it’s even happening. We are sleepwalking to extinction.

"SARS-CoV-2 is now the only respiratory virus known to directly infect blood vessels. The study adds to the already large body of evidence that COVID-19 is nothing like 'the flu.' It is far worse" wsws.org/en/articles/20…

Something has got to be done to stop the deadly bloating of American vehicles. We can not keep sacrificing children so that affluent suburbanites can drive to Starbucks in giant land tanks. slate.com/business/2023/…

Truth about global warming is, while many parts of earth will be uninhabitably hot for humans, most car pollution (and heat it causes) is in the ocean. A warmer ocean, combined w/ warmer surface temps, will evaporate faster. And faster evaporation causes 9 inch rain storms.

How long are you contagious with COVID-19? ➡️ Most people are infectious for ~10 days ➡️ ~80% of people test positive for 5 days after symptom onset ➡️ Only ~30% of people who test positive have a fever ➡️ Presence of symptoms is an unreliable indicator of infectiousness

It’s a shame CDC is playing politics instead of recommending sane mitigations for reducing spread of a life debilitating virus like COVID. Here’s what’s best for public health:

What happened when Philadelphia installed traffic cameras that automatically ticket cars going >11 mph over the speed limit? ⬇️ Total crashes ⬇️ Traffic injuries ⬇️ Crash deaths ⬇️ Pedestrian injuries We should be using automatic enforcement everywhere. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/03…

The Amazon rainforest doesn't just remove ~2 billions tons of CO2 every year. It also moves ~20 billions tons of water through evotranspiration, the so-called "flying rivers", critical for planetary balance. I wish more people knew this.
