Trip to StaffsWildlife 🦔🍄🦇 Highgate common today and found my first ever Bagworm. Narycia duplicella, White-speckled Bagworm. 😊 The larva of these moths feed on lichen and make a case covered in bits of lichen, good camouflage.

Loads going on again at this year's StaffsInvertScience. Some fab talks and all the usual stalls and societies in attendance. Nice to have a few new societies and faces coming too to keep growing and evolving the event. Saturday March 1st, @staffsuni and hosted by StaffsInvertGroup.

The weather clouded over last night sfter a clear start. Think that change helped bring in these 2 to the trap. Dotted Border and another Early Moth 🙂

There will also be the usual pond dipping stall with Nick Mott and Andy Farmer, so plenty of aquatics for those interested in our waterways. Staffordshire is home to one of the scarcest of all the dragonflies, the white-faced darter. It is so scarce that reintroductions have taken place to former sites in Cheshire to try to support the declining species. It can be found in Staffordshire at Chartley Moss SSSI.

You can find more about the Staffordshire Invertebrate Science Fair on our page. It is a free invertebrate conservation event hosted at Staffordshire University and run by StaffsInvertGroup . It is on Saturday March 1st. Perfect for all ages and levels of interest.

We've finalised the Staffordshire University's Children's University list of activities. The passport is filled with a fantastic variety of things to achieve for your kids while you are walking around chatting to the societies. See you all on March 1st @ Staffs Uni.

The Bagot Boys are back. They've been indoors for a few days as they had to be tested for TB. They've all come back clear so now they are back out munching on their favourite, spiky and prickly stuff 🙂

First Oak Beauty of the year 😊

Another great day at the brilliant Staffordshire Invertebrate Science Fair. Just full of interesting and interested people and inverts galore 😊 Big thank you to Dave and Andy for organising StaffsInvertScience really appreciate it 👍👍👍

What an interesting night, not great numbers but quality. Acleris umbrana, Nat Scarce A. Pammene giganteana Nat Scarce B. Both new records and a poss 1st staffs. And a nice Shoulder Stripe, last park record 2006. 😊

Not many moths but nice. Frosted Green, Red Twin spot Carpet, Chocolate Tip and Lunar Marbled Brown amongst them 😊

Just checked and the Frosted Greens from the other night were new park records, so to get two was rather nice 😊😊

This was a nice surprise this morning. There's green moths then there's GREEN moths. This one is Green Arches 🙂

I knew they had to be here. Lunar Hornet Clearwing moth. 2 came in to the Pheromone lure. 😊
