Lots going on with seed oils and restaurants. Chefs weigh in. RFK Jr. has thoughts about it. Talked to dietitians, too. Here's my report: houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/r…

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, which led directly to the migration that would give Houston the second-largest Vietnamese population in the US. Wrote about the community’s triumphs, struggles and how trauma lingers through generations houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…

Beautiful essay by Houston Chronicle restaurant critic Bao Ong about the 50th anniversary of Fall of Saigon, Houston's dynamic Vietnamese food scene, and how it all folds into his own family story. Gift link: houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/r…

Perry's is offering its famous pork chop for 79 cents tomorrow. Bao Ong went to try it to see if it's any good. houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/r… via Houston Chronicle

News I can use: Seafood City’s food hall is a fun master class in Filipino cuisine, from skewers to sweets, via Bao Ong. Makes me want to hop in the car and light out for Sugar Land. 👹👹👹 houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/r… via Houston Chronicle

Next best thing to actually buying Le Beurre Bordier in France is that a shop in Houston is now selling it. C'est super! houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/r…

One of my goals before taking on the Houston Chronicle critic job was to expand the types of restaurants we review: the types of cuisines, price points, geography and the people cooking the food. Granny Dee's Kitchen was all that: houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/r…

Good observation. Among the Top 50, and the Top 10 for sure, the brisket is all spectacular. Because of that, it’s not the thing that separates one joint from another. A great slice of brisket has become the prerequisite instead of something distinctive.

Lots of us in food media are told to "just stick to food." It's rarely so simple, though. Here's my take on Trump Burger in Houston for this week's restaurant review: houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/r…
