Wave or stream? Raphaël Nussbaumer and co-authors Cornell Lab found hat seasonal bird migration resembles a stream where bird populations on the ground are continuously replaced by new individuals, thanks to data from radars and eBird observations. More on doi.org/10.1111/ecog.0…

Congratulations Nihon Hidankyo for this incredibly well deserved #NobelPeacePrize. The hibakusha, the inspirational survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the catastrophic impacts of nuclear weapons and push for their total elimination.

A first for an Irish Robin! A great record of a Robin ringed in Calais in France in mid Sept and found in West Cork two weeks later. This is the first record of a Robin moving between France and Ireland! Thanks to Shona in Cork for contacting us when she found the ring!

Intense #nocmig picked up on radar from the Southern Norwegian coast at Lista Bird Observatory last night. A Westerly movement out into the North Sea with birds taking advantage of the slack winds under a flabby low pressure system. Yellow are small birds & Orange medium sized.

Another NYE, another night of terror for millions of birds across the Netherlands. Last year we published (esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/fe…) about the massive impact of fireworks on birds. Thread with a damning animation of radar measurements during NYE countdown, below. 👇
