My latest article with Baiq Wardhani CSGS Skytte Institute UT on 🇮🇩 position in the #RussianUkrainianWar has just been published by CSP Journal. We argue that 🇮🇩’s ambivalence is part of its tension between equal sovereignty & familial approach to conflict. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

🥁New article! Notice how 🇮🇳 rarely explicitly criticizes or even names 🇨🇳 in diplomatic speech? Well Raphaëlle Khan & I have a theory for that. Our new BJPIR article draws on language pragmatics to argue that 🇮🇳 often signals via a mode of indirect speech called "implicature"

Contributed a review of Powell and Wiegand's "The Peaceful Resolution of Territorial and Maritime Disputes" for ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute's Contemporary Southeast Asia. A compelling read, highlighting how states seek peaceful resolution, and why the Philippines deserved their 2016 PCA award.

Fascinated with these maps of Singapore and Malaysia of a bygone era, which I found at the former Bukit Timah Railway Station. The latter shows the old rail lines of Singapore that once connected the city-state with KL. Sad to think how this has become a relic of the past.

Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we
