As it stands right now (10pm) Labor has achieved the biggest two party preferred result since Menzies in 1966. (56.9). It might slip below Fraser in 1975 (55.7) when all votes are counted. But it’s certainly labor’s best ever.

Daniel now trails Wilson by 131 votes. There is an automatic recount if the difference is less than 100. But a candidate can still request a recount if ā€œit’s particularly close.ā€ In 2022 a candidate in Gilmore was refused a recount. But the margin was 373.

The AEC allows for a candidate to request a recount if ā€œit’s particularly close.ā€ It doesn’t specify a number. Is a margin of 131 after 126,000 are counted ā€œparticularly close?ā€ That’s the question.
