~OTD in 1915 the 1st batch of NZ #nurses arrived in the UK ready to head to Egypt to care for the wounded from #Gallipoli. After the 3 weeks sailing they had a little R & R in London before heading to their postings. They shopped, saw sights & went to shows, & were entertained

This was great fun to do! Always happy to bang on about the "other" fronts! 😁 Do give it a listen and if it sounds interesting, consider getting the book. 😊 If you have already bought it and enjoyed it, reviews are appreciated 🙏

In the Austro-Hungarian naval base at Kotor/Cattaro, the armoured cruiser SMS Kaiser Karl VI is under fire from Montenegrin artillery batteries on Mount Lovćen, August 1914. The Montenegrin army was small, but in places like this, they could still be a major threat.

Not-staged combat photo from the First World War. The photo shows Austro-Hungarian soldiers of Inf. Regt. Nr. 14, during its attack from Oserdów on 28 August 1914. While successful, the regiment suffered nearly 400 casualties while charging across open ground.
