Language is the medium of our classrooms, vital for learning. But how often do we explicitly plan the quality of this everpresent element? Despite huge focus on ELA blocks, reading scores often stagnate. Maybe the answer isn't just more ELA time? šŸ¤” #Literacy #EduChat

I am beyond excited about this upcoming School Tour visit - the Campaign's 50th!! So appropriate that it would be to a district using BOTH knowledge-rich ELA curricula AND a first-rate elementary social studies curriculum! Couldn't agree more. This visit to see LDOE Bayou Bridges curriculum in action has already been amazing - and it's only Day 1. The word "coherence" keeps coming to mind. Kids are drawing connections across ELA and social studies content! Amplify Core Knowledge Foundation

šŸŽÆ "The best way to present an abstract idea to kids is to hook them on a story." (Natalie Wexler) High quality social studies instruction hits all the complex literacy standards!

"Social studies - it's just fun... we always do these things where we write about it and I think those are pretty cool and fun." Why? "Because we learn more about different people...and we can write about a few characters." My heart!!! #HistoryMatters

We couldn't have picked a better district to celebrate 50 Knowledge Matters Campaign School Tour visits. In ELA, social studies, and science, Ouachita Parish is using HQIM. These guys TOTALLY get knowledge building, and their kids are thriving!

Teachers and parents should take 10 minutes to read this great Substack article by Lauren Brown, who makes a powerful case for reading history texts/stories aloud to students well into middle school. History Matters LaurenBrownOnEd laurenbrownoned.substack.com/p/the-power-of…
