1 / 3 NEW - unseen poetry booklet, with full mark model answer for the 24 mark question. I'm using it with Year 9, but would suit KS4. All the poems are available online, so I hope this is ok. There is space to write about each poem in the booklet...

1/ We have done enormous amounts of work on Literacy this year at Trinity Academy Cathedral and we are starting to see some very encouraging signs that our approach is working. Sharing everything here in the spirit of collaboration and general good cheer... 🧵🧵🧵

Had a breakthrough with Year 13 on ways of approaching the Unseen Prose question yesterday. Here’s how we did it 🧵 (Spec: AQA 7712/A Paper 2A Section B)

In the process of distilling what makes an excellent Head of Year (a little like I did in the blogpost below). I will share if I manage to finish! Any HoYs got principles they believe have made them successful in the role? I would love to hear from you! …nethingafteranotherblog.wordpress.com/2019/12/26/wha…

At A Level, I use 'yes/but/so' which sounds like a TWR thing, but it's not really It's a thinking prompt first, then a writing prompt It structures debate, shows students ideas are negotiable & that shifting viewpoint means different things in the text will swim into focus 1/6

Australian schools are debating how to control bad behaviour. Really interesting long read about the debate around behaviour in Australian schools. Featuring me, ⁦Katharine Birbalsingh⁩, and the fascinating Rosebud school smh.com.au/national/anxie…

Happy Sunday Team English! I currently teach We Were Liars to my Y9s (don’t ask…), but I am looking for a change. I was wondering what you teach your Y9s, or what would you teach if you could? Looking for all the inspo🤩 TIA!

🌟Students need a sentence structure to show their understanding that big ideas are connected to little moments.🌟🧵 I talk a lot about micro and macro. Everything we read and write moves between big & small; small & big. Being able to access the big idea is important. 1/10

I rarely post suggestions Team English but this week I got Y13 to make up Hamlet qs - they picked a critical quote as a statement. They planned a response then gave the q to others who planned their response. Finally, they compared plans to see what was explored/missed.

Thread for NEW leaders of T&L… I was on a coaching call with someone recently who is starting as T&L AP in September. If you’re starting as a new member of staff, you have to deal with the fact that: - Staff don’t know or trust you yet - You don’t know what’s gone before 1/ 👇

A HoY role is available at my school and I’m thinking about applying (and yes, I’ve read the awesome Amy Forrester’s compendium of knowledge). If anyone would be so kind to reply with their tips, tricks, must know advice and interview prep, I’d be so grateful!

I pulled my reflections on how #Adolescence has led us to symptom-spot toxic masculinity with few practical solutions. Whether it’s social-media or school culture, young people need room for empathy & agency. How consciously are we making space for this? shorturl.at/Z7xl6
