Forgot to tweet this out earlier! SB494, which would split the state's Department of Health and Human Services into two, passed unanimously out of committee today. Lawmakers have said it may improve health care service delivery and give the state more leverage with insurers.

Some updates from Clark County on the impacts of Gov. Lombardo's crime bill. The bill could result in over 2,000 new felony cases (that's just from the reduced felony theft threshold) and cost the county over $4.5 million per budget cycle, according to a county fiscal analysis.

Lombardo's sweeping crime bill passed out of the Nevada Assembly 36-6. The heavily-amended measure would allow Clark County to bar people who committed a crime in certain tourist heavy areas, such as the Strip, for up to a year. It also adds protections for hospitality workers.

It hasn't previously been reported in the media, but bella learned that ICE and Nye County cut ties on immigrant detention, with commissioners in the conservative county saying they had ended up subsidizing ICE >>
