Keep an eye on the skies tonight! There's a chance of seeing the aurora borealis in the north of the UK - especially Shetland - if there's enough clear sky. #NorthernLights

Storms kicking off in a big way! Some of the most frequent lightning I’ve seen in the UK over my house in southeast London right now… 🌩️

Can you guess what this type of phenomenon is? It has been seen in the skies this week across England, as captured by our BBC Weather Watchers and our very own Ben Rich. Sophia Herod lets us know.

The Met Office has named the third storm of the season. Storm Ciarán will bring the threat of damaging winds and heavy rain later in the week. Ben Rich has the details.

The Channel Islands look likely to see the worst of the weather from #StormCiaran - see how the forecast wind gusts increase through the early hours. Storm-force winds are expected. Warnings have been issued by Jersey Met CI Weather Warnings

Happy Christmas from the 🎄 and me! Feeling very fortunate to have started the day with family. Will be ending it on your TV screen (if you’re up very, very late!).

We've seen some big Christmas contrasts: 13.6C at Exeter Airport made it the mildest Christmas Day since 2016... ...but snow in northern Scotland meant it was also a white Christmas!

Storm Ingunn, named by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, will easily meet the criteria for explosive cyclogenesis as it passes to the north of the UK. Its central pressure is forecast to drop 40-50mb over 24 hours. Ben Rich explains more 👇

Snow on Thursday morning will mostly be over hills and mountains of N Wales & N Eng where significant disruption likely. Spreading into NI & S Scot later in day. At low levels a light covering is possible in places but it'll be sleety/wet snow or even rain. Simon

End of an era. Pirate FM is a big part of why I got into broadcasting. I listened obsessively as a kid, they let me on-air on work experience, and my first job in radio was with its sister station in Bristol. A very special radio station. Good luck to all the Pirate Crew!

Lots of misleading posts and stories since yesterday claiming #CloudSeeding was responsible for the Dubai storms. However, the severe weather was too widespread and was well forecast in advance. Computer models don’t factor in cloud-seeding bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…

It's been a dramatic - and noisy - start to the day in some southern parts with heavy downpours and thunderstorms over the last few hours.

Just binged “Lost Boys and Fairies” on BBC iPlayer - I haven’t seen a better bit of TV in a long time. I’m not crying… you are! 🥹

Unhappy with summer so far? Has it really been as bad as you think? Doesn’t climate change mean every month is warmer? I looked at the latest June stats on BBC Breakfast this morning

So so pleased for Nick Owen - not only a broadcasting legend but a thoroughly nice man. When I started at BBC Midlands I had no idea how to do telly… Nick was nothing but kind and encouraging and taught me so much.

Temperatures are likely to reach 30C again in the south today but the north-west of the UK is already cooler - and that's a sign of things to come... bbc.in/3REXJen

The latest episode of the podcast is now live. In this episode we chat to Ben Rich about the importance of having more conversations about climate change, and how with science we can now attribute more extreme weather events to climate change.
