Holy crap. I struggle to write super short (like one sentence long) booktalks for our shelf talkers (I’m wordy) & I just tried chatgpt to see if it could help & it actually did a pretty good job! In case it’s helpful to others, Here’s the prompt I used:

I was today years old when I learned Picasso was a suspect in the theft of the Mona Lisa.🤯 This FANTASTIC book is like a true crime podcast. Compelling characters, nonlinear narrative, and commentary on our modern world. Thrilled to share it with our 5th grade Mock Newbery.

Gave the book talk. No one checked it out. A week later, I get this note. Apparently, the student came back later to get the book, and LOVED it. I had no idea the book talk had worked! Sometimes we don’t see our impact, but that doesn’t mean the impact isn’t there.

Lol why oh why didn’t we start putting the library barcodes overtop of the books ISBN barcode years ago?!?! 😫 I love it & it will make self checkout SO MUCH EASIER for the kids going forward!

Some awesome art we did for our All School Read - The Magnificent Makers: Storm Chasers! Each grade level did a different project about different weather. So grateful for the team of teachers who pulled this together. (I’m not so good with art projects…)

Trying out my own version of dynamic shelving with chapter books. They weren’t getting browsed like they should. Turning series horizontal, moving more books forward facing and highlighted. Anecdotally, the few prototyped sections have already turned heads and increased circs!

A second grader had reimagined me as a book!!! 😂
