We are excited to announce that we have been awarded a #SMSRCGrant from Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre to support individuals impacted by sexual misconduct in the wider Defence community.

1/ New paper alert from our group MacDonald Franklin OSI Research Centre. Bethany and team examined the associations between moral injury and past year mental health disorders in Canadian Armed Forces personnel. Follow below for a recap of what we found ow.ly/C43q50NyxXO

2/ Potentially morally injurious experiences are common during military service, but it’s unclear to what extent they are related to other adverse mental health outcomes.

3/ This project used data from the 2018 Canadian Armed Forces Members and Veterans Mental Health Follow-up Survey (CAFVMHS), which represented over 18,000 active duty and 34,000 released CAF personnel.

4/ Controlling for demographic and military factors, we found that increased severity of moral injury (as measured by the MIES) was associated with increased odds of experiencing any past-year mental health disorder (e.g., depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder).

5/ These results highlight the importance of addressing moral injury, considering its strong associations with common operational stress injuries (e.g., PTSD, depression).
