Honored to receive a proclamation tonight from Phara Souffrant Forrest recognizing my work at Transportation Alternatives TA Brooklyn (TABK) to improve street safety in AD57 in partnership with her office. Grateful to the neighbors, volunteers whose collective power made change possible.

This Vienna street isn’t “closed” because cars have been removed. It’s been opened to everything else, to a diverse and invigorated civic life for people, because cars have been replaced by a multitude of wonderful things. Language matters. Despite high demand to live in NYC, zoning has restricted NYC’s growth rate: without zoning, it would be 4x what it is today. NYC’s zoning has created a pressure cooker, adding more demand without more supply, creating intense competition and record-high rents.

"'Housing is a Human Right' is a lovely phrase and a powerful one, but if you want that right to ever have any hope of being realized, you need to actually build some housing." Jessica Katz nails it in Vital City. Let's treat our housing shortage as the emergency it is.

just deeply disappointing to see More Perfect Union blatantly lying that building more market rate housing *causes* homelessness instead of preventing it. Austin is one of the few places in America where rents actually *fell* because it built so much housing!
