Using drugs & nodding out in public is a sign ppl are struggling w/addiction. The OD rates in Permanent Supportive Housing indicate we're skipping a critical step - drug treatment. Let's help ppl get their lives back, then help them with housing - people 1st, recovery 1st!

Policy decisions which sounded good - Prop 47 (Safe Neighborhood & Schools Act), Harm Reduction, & Housing 1st - have had unintended NEGATIVE consequences. We need to enlarge the solution space & get back to basics. RECOVERY 1st!

16 yrs ago today I got clean & sober - in a set of handcuffs! From state prison to SF Adult Probation's Reentry Division Director, to leading TheWayOutSF, a homeless initiative of Salvation Army SF. My family's prayers came true - God did for me what I could not do for myself!

SF leaders now understand what we've been saying for years - SF's version of "harm reduction" (shoot & sell dope, steal, free housing) is not working! London Breed⁩ captured it perfectly, "Harm reduction is not reducing the harm - it is making things far worse!"

As I learn more about the ongoing drug crisis and our response in San Francisco, it's becoming clear what we're doing is not working. I know Steve Adami, and he's been there and back. What he says makes sense to me. What do you think?
