Here is an idea: in addition to tags related to biology, each publication has a tag list of techniques utilized (IF, ATAC-Seq, elastase), searchable on pubmed as well as whatever reference organizer you use (I use Lean Library Workspace (formerly Sciwheel)) so you can find more easily how others did things.
