As mentioned, these are the cute little guys I get to have as buddies for a few weeks while the lab takes safety measures. These painted lady butterflies are feeding and laying tons of tiny blue eggs on this marsh thistle.

The painted ladies that have pupated so far from the eggs of our original colony. Just added them to a flight cage. One is super grumpy that I touched him but the rest are content. 🦋

We have another species we are rearing right now! Luna moths (Actias luna) are back in the Kawahara Lab, and as cute as ever. They like to sleep with their little hands (true legs) together! 🥺

Final grades were released, and I am excited to have graduated from FLORIDA with honors. Took a few days off to celebrate, and now the challenge of navigating grad school and research opportunities during a pandemic begins. 🐛🎓

After a long break, I'm finally back on Twitter! Lots has changed in the past few months, but the biggest change is that I started a biological scientist position at @EPI_UF working on bacterial pathogens. I am learning so much every day, and am excited for more science sharing!

CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Protocols (ACIP) will meet on December 1st to discuss and vote on the order in which COVID19 vaccines will given to public. This virtual meeting will be webcast and is open to public. Info to access meeting is on CDC website.

Can we just take a second to appreciate how bonkers it is that you can inject mRNA into someone and the body is like “ok cool I’ll translate that, recognize it as exogenous, and develop lasting immunity to what it codes for”
