Farewell lunch. Six visiting students and scholars, Xun Wang, Yiting Wang, Cin Luo, Xin Wang and Li Zou) will leave my lab recently (Jin Wang already left). They have contributed tremendously to the lab, expanding our aptamer research to rare earth metals, and RNA. Thank you!

Our new paper reveals a huge effect of pH in isolating aptamers for Kanamycin. At pH 6, we got highly enriched aptamers, but not at pH 8, which seems reasonable considering the four pKa values of Kanamycin being all close to 7. …mistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/an…

Glad to see our new J. Am. Chem. Soc. paper online on New Year Day! Using Sc3+, a visiting PhD student Jin Wang obtained an aptamer with different affinities and binding and dissociation kinetics to rare earth metals. Thanks Philip Johnson and Rahith for NMR! doi.org/10.1021/jacs.4…

Glad to see the structure of our theophylline DNA aptamer solved by crystallography by Prof. Lin Huang 黄林. A beautiful structure 👍👍 From Theophylline to Adenine or preQ1: Repurposing a DNA Aptamer Revealed by Crystal Structure Analysis onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/an…

Four of our papers ranked as most widely read papers in Wiley publications, topics ranging from aptamers, microplastics to nanozymes. 👏👏

Our aptamer for acrylamide has only mM affinity. After reacting acrylamide with xanthydrol to form a covalent adduct, a new aptamer with nM affinity for the adduct was obtained. Published ACS Analytical Chemistry Journals pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

Had a great #CSC2025 conference with 10 lab members who made it to Ottawa. Many great talks and super high enthusiasm even on the last day. Our aptamers have gained popularity 👏👏

Farewell lunch for a Turkish couple visiting professors, Esra Bagda and Ekfan Bagda, from Sivas Cumhuriyet University. They stayed for two years and started aptamer work on modified nucleosides such as methyladenosines. Thank you and it was great to have you in the lab.

I think this is the first time that Irving-Williams series is seen in a nucleic acid. Should be an interesting metal binding site. Check out our new paper Chemical Science, another good collaboration with Philip Johnson and Rahith pubs.rsc.org/en/content/art…

Led by PhD student Yachen Xie, we obtained aptamers for bilirubin and biliverdin. Took us two years, a lot of details, check it out! Nice NMR from Philip Johnson and Rahith pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…
